In the modern world, we recognise that there are many toxins in our environment and bodies that can negatively impact our wellbeing, but we never seem to look at the solutions to remove these toxins from our bodies. People often experience chronic fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances due to the constant exposure to environmental toxins and mental stressors. These factors disrupt our natural bodily functions and can lead to more serious health issues if not addressed, which is why it is important to detoxify our bodies and environment of toxins and chemicals that can negatively impact our health and wellbeing.

RAIN’s health expert, Marie Guerlain, used to suffer from inflammation and disease due to a stressful and busy lifestyle. After swapping out harmful toxins in her environment and focusing on detoxifying her body, she saw a massive difference in her daily lifestyle.

Here are Marie’s top ways to detox her home and body.

Ways to detoxify your bodies

1.Eliminate processed foods and incorporate more whole, organic foods into your diet

This can enhance liver detoxification and eliminate persistent organic pollutants from the body. Also, eating certain foods like coriander, nori and olestra have detoxification properties.

2. Incorporate regular physical activity and practices like dry brushing and sauna sessions

Dry brushing increases blood circulation and promotes lymph drainage which supports detoxification. Dry brushing and using a sauna make you unclogs pores, through exfoliation and sweat. Through unclogging pores, toxins like air pollutants are able to be flushed out along with sweat.

3. Drink plenty of water

Drinking an adequate amount of water daily helps your kidneys cleanse and rid our bodies of toxins, such as blood urea nitrogen, a main toxin in our bodies.

4. Drink herbal teas

Herbal teas, such as green tea or burdock tea, aid in the removal of toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymphatic system, and skin. It also removes impurities from the blood in our liver, which is where toxins are processed for elimination.

Ways to detoxify your homes

Our homes are often filled with chemical filled household products and plastic. In many of our everyday products, like non-stick pans or waterproof clothing, there is a synthetic chemical called PFAS, which lingers in our environment without breaking down. Since it is persistent in our homes, it can have an immense impact on our health, including altered metabolism and risk of childhood obesity, increased risk of some cancers, and reduced ability of the immune system to fight infections, which is why it is essential to detox our homes.

1.Use natural cleaning products

Several cleaning products contain harmful toxins and volatile organic compounds, which can contaminate the air we breathe in. Swapping to natural cleaning products or making your own will be less harmful to your health.

2. Avoid plastics

Although it may be difficult since plastic is in almost everything, you should avoid anything plastic, since it contains BPA, an industrial chemical, that can cause damage to multiple body systems.

3. Use an air purifier

Be mindful of the air quality in your environment and use an air purifier to rid harmful toxins and particles in the air.

Ways to detox when you’re out

1.Carry a water bottle to avoid plastic

Use a reusable water bottle when outside your home so you don’t have to buy water sold in plastic bottles.

2. Choose organic and whole foods when dining out

Eating organic food that is free from pesticides, fertilisers, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is healthier and free from potentially harmful chemicals.

3. Spend time in nature to offset the effects of urban pollutants

Nature helps reduce air pollution, leading to cleaner air in greener environments, which is better for our wellbeing.

It’s important to be aware of the toxins and chemicals that are in our bodies and environment, and ensure that we are mindful about the products we use for our bodies and home. Follow these tips to help cleanse your body and home of toxins and improve your overall wellbeing.
